Kethyras

“What an odd title…” is something I’m sure you’re thinking when you see this one. “What tf is ‘Kethyras’?”

Well, dear readers, let me share with you, the meaning of this one. But first, an image.

Kethyras – The City of the Ascendant Moons

“Oh… it’s a … city?” Yes, this is an overview map of Kethyras, better known as The City of the Ascendant Moons.

And All This Means … What?

As I mentioned recently, I decided to (proverbially) “get off my arse” and start writing more about Nonna Torsdottir. [All right – to be honest, this actually involved a lot more of me sitting on said arse since that’s generally a better position from which to type on a keyboard, but … stick with me on this one, ok?]

The next step in expanding this story was to write about the other character. (No – you don’t get to learn her name yet; you’ll just have to wait until I’m done writing.) After all Fafhrd had the Gray Mouser, right? So Nonna has … her “other half” as well.

But, in just the same way that Fafhrd and Mouser would eventually meet in the city of Lankhmar, so, too, does this story need a grandiose city in which adventures happen. Thus, allow me to introduce …

The City of the Ascendant Moons

The official name is, as you’ve certainly figured out by now, Kethyras. And, yes, this world does, indeed, have more than one moon. (You don’t get to learn their names yet, either.)

And, while last we left Nonna being told she had some sort of destiny awaiting her, so, too, does the other character. She also has deeds to do and tales that will need telling. But first – both of them need to be headed towards a meeting … said meeting to take place in, as should be readily apparent by now – Kethyras.

Stay Tuned …

I promise that the next “story” (which I probably should start considering to be a “chapter”, really) will be ready for posting soon. I’ve got the tail end of the last scene to write and then have to do a full-re-read / edit-and-cleanup pass on it After that, up it goes.

And, of course …

The amazing image of the city (above) was only possible because I stumbled (all right – I was searching for a tool and found it) upon the “Medieval Fantasy City Generator” created by Watabou. (https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator). It took quite a few “rerolls” to finally find a layout and city size that I was happy with, but once I did, I knew it just “clicked”.
